The Three Stooges have been recast and a new movie is coming out.
April 11, 2012- Curly, Moe and Larry are alive and well again. The three have been recast by Bobby and Peter Farrelly 16 years after producing Dumb and Dumber. Many fans from the Stooges thought it was sacrilege to even consider recasting the characters nevertheless, the brothers have done just that.
The brothers had no intention of changing anything with the three characters. They have long adored them and want their return to the big screen to be as close to what they used to be as possible. The new movie The Three Stooges is PG-rated and contains the same funny knucklehead antics as the previous Stooges movies did.
The Farrellys’ want many of the youngsters of today to know about the Stooges. They want the Stooges to make a return and want their legacy to be a lasting one. When it came time to cast the characters, 20th Century originally wanted top names in the industry and were close to signing actors like Sean Penn, Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro.
The brothers even said they met with stars like Russell Crowe and Mel Gibson, but many of the superstars wanted to perform their own interpretations of the three characters, rather than a re-creation of the originals.
The Farrellys were able to agree to foregoing their salaries for a cut of the profits and the opportunity to cast the actors they felt were the best. The three actors they chose are fairly unknown. Sean Hayes plays Larry. Will Sasso will be Curly and Moe is played by Chris Diamantopoulos.
