Lionel Richie’s country album Tuskegee is #1 in the Billboard 200.
April 26, 2012– Tuskegee by Lionel Richie is still Number 1. It now has been on the top of the Billboard Top 200 for two straight weeks. The country duets on his album have again outsold all competitors. For the third straight week, the album is also at the top of the Billboard Country Albums chart.
This week the album sold 114,110 and the album is currently the best-selling album in country music for 2012. It is the first album in over a year to be number one for two straight weeks on the Billboard 200. Total sales for the album have exceeded 536,900.
Richie said, “I am overwhelmed, excited and above all very grateful.”
He said he enjoyed himself tremendously in the studio making the album and the fact that the album is so well received is heart warming. He also said the success of Tuskegee was even more rewarding because he can share it with his 13 talented friends who so generously gave of themselves in making the album.
Thirty years ago, Richie made his first appearance on the Billboard 200. He joins the great Ray Charles as the only two artists to have No. 1 albums on the Billboard Country charts and the Hip-Hop/R&B Albums charts. This is the album’s fourth straight week in the Billboard 200’s Top 5. In its debut week of March 26, the album debuted at number 2 in the chart.
