September 24, 2012– Last night the 64th annual Emmy Awards were held and the awards show for primetime television had very few surprises. The show was hosted by the reliable and funny Jimmy Kimmel who often times came close by usually missed in his jokes on the night. Producers of the show tried to speed up the awards presentations and limit the airtime for the show.
The outstanding lead actress for a comedy Emmy was awarded to Julia Louis-Dreyfus for her role in Veep an HBO series. The lead actor Emmy in a comedy went to Jon Cryer for his portrayal of Alan Harper in Two and a Half Men on CBS.
Homeland, a series on Showtime won for lead actress and actor for a drama series. Claire Danes won for best actress on the show and fellow cast member Damian Lewis won for best actor.
Some surprises did prevail as an Emmy for supporting actress for drama went to Maggie Smith for Downtown Abbey a PBS series. However, the biggest surprise of the entire night was the non-win of Brian Cranston for the top leading actor for a drama series for Breaking Bad. Odds makers had given him the edge to win, as this might be the series’ last year.
