The Clippers ended December 16-0 to join just the San Antonio Spurs of 1996-1996
January 2, 2013 – The NBA Los Angeles Clippers won their 17th consecutive game on Sunday against the Utah Jazz to end the month of December undefeated. Caron Butler said after the Clippers defeated Utah 107-96 that he and his teammates had something very magical taking place. Los Angeles becomes only the third team in the history of the NBA to record a month that was perfect.
The Clippers ended December 16-0 to join just the San Antonio Spurs of 1996-1996 and the Los Angeles Lakers of 1971-1972 as the only clubs to play an entire month without losing. The 17 game winning streak is the league’s longest since 2008 when the Boston Celtics won 19 straight. The win improved the Clippers record to 25-6, which is the best in the NBA.
The Clippers were led in the game by Butler’s 29 points even though he did not play the entire fourth quarter. He was 6 for 6 from three-point range including 5 of 5 in the first quarter. Blake Griffin the Clippers’ rebound machine was double teamed the entire game and held to only seven points while committing five fouls.
Clippers players and coaches have not talked about the streak, but players from other clubs and the press are making it a popular topic. Griffin said that this season’s team is the best he has ever played on and is having the most fun he has had since he started playing basketball. He said the team does not feel much pressure since they know that the season is 82 games and they will have their share of losses as the season goes forward.
The loss by Utah was the third time during the streak that Los Angeles has defeated the Jazz. All of the three games have been close as Utah lost last Friday 116-114 after leading by 19 points and they lost 105-104 on December 3.
