Talk show personailty Anderson Cooper has revealed he is homosexual.
July 3, 2012– On Monday, Anderson Cooper the popular talk show host on CNN revealed he is gay. This ends years of reluctance on his part to talk about his personal life publically. The journalist write in a letter online that he had maintained his sexual orientation private for both professional and personal reasons, but has decided that by remaining silent it had given people a mistaken impression that he might have been ashamed.
In the letter, he wrote, “I am gay, have always been gay and will always be gay. I am very happy and comfortable with who I am and I am proud of who I am.”
Cooper is the son of Gloria Vanderbilt and his sexual orientation has been the subject of different rumors for quite some time. He said it would not have mattered, in a perfect world, but there exists value in letting it out and being counted.
He said he thinks of himself as a reserved person and hopes that by speaking out he does not lose the small amount of personal space he still has been able to keep.
CNN said they had no comment, Cooper was out on assignment and no plans had been made for Cooper to broadcast it on the airwaves. Very few national television reporters have publically acknowledged they are gay, with Don Lemon from CNN and Rachel Maddow from MSNBC being two of the well known ones.
