Bassist from 3 Doors Down Charged with Vehicular Homicide Bassist from 3 Doors Down Charged with Vehicular Homicide

April 21, 2013- Police announced that Robert Todd Harrell, the bassist for 3 Doors Down the rock band, had been charged with vehicular homicide. Law enforcement officials said Harrell’s speeding car hit a pickup sending it down a steep embankment. The driver of the pickup was killed in the incident.

Police said that Harrell, who is 41, showed signs of being impaired and acknowledged to them that he had been drinking hard cider. He also told authorities he had taken two prescription medications Xanax and Lortab.

When authorities performed a search at the police station, sheriff deputies found a concealed plastic bag inside Harrell’s sock. The bag contained 4 oxymorphone, eight Xanax and 24 oxycondone pills.

Police then charged Harrell with entering a controlled substance into a police lockup. The bassist was held on $100,000 bond.

Law enforcement said that Paul Shoulders, the driver of the pickup, had not been wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. He was ejected from the pickup. Shoulders was pronounced dead after being taken to the Medical Center at Vanderbilt University.

The 3 Doors Down band’s website said the band was deeply saddened over the death of Shoulders. The statement on the site said their prayers went out to Shoulders’ family and friends during this difficult situation.

The band is likely best known for Kryptonite one of its songs, but also had a run of hits during the early 2000s. Those hits included Here Without You and When I am Gone.

The band was formed in 1994 in Mississippi and Harrell and two others are the founding members.
