June 30, 2013 - It seems that from the start, Ouya has been attempting to break the mold. The new video game console came to be through the startup Kickstarter.

It comes with an attractive price tag of just $99, along with games equally inexpensive. It has DNA that is mobile, inside the body of a console for home.

Beyond all that, the new Ouya is the same as the PlayStation 3, the Wii U and the Xbox 360 in one point that is very important: it is as good as its content and no more than that.

For a first endeavor, the Ouya is very solid, despite having a few things that are bothersome. However, it’s the video game experiences that are unique that will be convincing to consumers to by the console, yet Ouya still had not supplied that game or handful of games to create that experience.

The Ouya is small compared to the other behemoths that usually serve as consoles for video games.

On its backside you will find ports for a USB, power adapter, HDMI and Ethernet. In addition, there is only one power button found on top.

Powering the console is a Nvidia Tegra 3 processor that is quad-core, which is not going to stand up to devices that are next generation, but will be sufficient.

Similar to smartphones, the hardware in the Ouya will launch annually, with new tweaks to help its performance on a technical basis.

The new controller has a design similar to other current devices with dual thumbsticks, four face buttons, a directional pad, two triggers on the rear and two thumbsticks. There is one power button that is able to double as a menu option or pause button.

Set up is easy, just hook in the HDMI cable into a television, plug it in and start gaming.

What will ultimately determine the success of Ouya is the content it has. The base is solid, but the unique experience only offered by Ouya is not there yet, but the price is so low it is worth a try.
